PROCESS FLOW

Double-stage reverse osmosis process

Pretreated water enters the first RO stage. First-pass permeate is buffered and adjusted as required before a second high-pressure pump sends it through the second RO membrane stage. Conductivity is monitored at the feed, intermediate and final product points.

  • Raw-water pretreatment and precision filtration
  • First-stage high-pressure pump and RO array
  • Intermediate tank or buffer section
  • Second-stage pH adjustment when required
  • Second-stage high-pressure pump and RO array
  • Multi-point conductivity, pressure and flow instruments
  • PLC cabinet with automatic flushing and interlocks

WATER TREATMENT PRINCIPLE

Why two RO stages produce lower conductivity

The first RO stage performs the main desalination. Its permeate becomes the cleaner feed for the second RO stage, allowing the second pass to reduce the remaining ionic load further.

Two-pass performance depends on feed temperature, first-pass recovery, pH adjustment, membrane selection and the final water target. Reference values must be confirmed against the project analysis.

WHY THIS ROUTE

Practical advantages for selection

  • Lower final conductivity than a one-pass RO route
  • Independent monitoring of both RO stages
  • Can be configured before EDI or sanitary downstream treatment
  • All common capacities remain model rows rather than duplicate products

BUYER QUESTIONS

Questions buyers usually ask before quotation.

Use these checks to decide whether the route is close enough before sending water data.

Is double-stage RO the same as two membrane housings?

No. Double-stage means permeate from the first RO pass is treated by a second complete RO pass, not simply multiple vessels in one array.

Can the system guarantee 0.5 uS/cm for every raw water?

No. The stated conductivity is a reference range under suitable feed and operating conditions; the design must be checked against the water analysis.

Can EDI be added later?

Yes, if the second-pass RO quality, flow, tank and control interfaces are designed for the selected EDI module.
